How to Cook Fried Eggs

Fried Egg:
(picture represents a typical fried egg, not necessarily results from the following recipe)

• Eggs
• Butter or Olive oil
• Salt
• Pepper
• Optional: Parmesan cheese
• Optional: Fresh basil or chives

1. Melt a little butter (or heat a little olive oil) in a pan on low to medium heat.
   
   
2. Crack open the eggs into the pan (most people prefer not to break the yolk, but if you are preparing fried eggs for use in sandwiches you may wish to do so).
   
   
3. There are several ways that you can prepare fried eggs. You will need to choose which option you want before you start cooking:
   
   
   • Sunnyside Up: Cook the eggs on a low heat. Cover the pan with a lid for some of the cooking period.
     
     
   • Over-Easy: After cooking on one side, turn the eggs over using a spatula, and cook for an extra final 10 seconds.
     
     
   • Over_Hard: After cooking on one side, turn the eggs over using a spatula, and cook for an extra final 1 minute.
   
   
4. You should cook the eggs at least until the yolks begin to harden at the edges (the yolk will become lighter in color). Because of food safety concerns (see Important Note above), it is recommended to cook the egg until the yolk is completely hardened.
   
   Uncooked egg white should be avoided, and in general, you should err on the side of overcooking, and avoid undercooking.
   
   
5. You can optionally add some grated parmesan cheese, chopped fresh basil or chives if you wish. This enhances the taste.
   
   
6. Before serving a little salt and pepper to season.
