    Tempura shrimps ("ebi tempura") are a popular dish from Japanese cuisine. They are shrimps deep-fried in a very light batter. They can be eaten over donburi (steamed rice), with soba (buckwheat) noodles, on top of udon (noodle soup), or on their own accompanied by a dipping sauce.

    Important: You should be aware that deep fat frying can be potentially dangerous and is one of the leading causes of domestic fires. Hot oil is also dangerous. A large number of people are killed and injured as a result of such fires, and other accidents relating to frying.
    • Consider using a thermostatically controlled deep fat fryer.
    • Always take appropriate safety precautions when cooking.
    • Always follow kitchen appliance manufacturers' instructions.
    • Do NOT use excessive amounts of oil.
    • Never leave cooking unattended.
    • Before starting cooking, know what to do to prevent fire and other risks.

    Here are ingredients for tempura shrimp:
    • Large Shrimps (10 to 12)
    • Egg (1)
    • All purpose flour (1 cup)
    • Ice water (1 cup)
    • Oil (for frying)
    Here is how to make tempura shrimp:
    1. Remove the head and shells from the shrimp, except for the tail. Clean them, and remove the black vein along the back using a knife (including any dirt in the tail). Make about a couple of small cuts in the stomach-side of the prawn so you can straighten them. Finally make sure the prawns are dry by dabbing them with a paper towels.

    2. Beat the egg in a bowl, add the ice water, and then gradually sift the flour into the bowl continuing to mix lightly. It does not matter if there are still a few lumps in the mix when you are done.

    3. Put oil in deep fat fryer, and preheat to 350°F (175°C). Dip each shrimp in the batter then deep fry (Warning: Fryer and oil will be hot and potentially dangerous, take care) until it is crisp.

    4. Remove shrimps from the oil (Warning: Fryer and oil will be hot and potentially dangerous, take care).

    Tempura originally came from in Japan in the 16th century, after Portuguese traders introduced deep-frying. Tempura is so versatile that you can dip just about any food into tempura and fry it and it will taste amazing.

    carrots, sliced sweet potatoes, eggplant, shrimp, mushrooms, bananas, plantains, Chicken wings, cheese, pickles, hot dogs, oreos, twinkies and other fair foods!

    Tod Mun Goong - Thai Fried Shrimp Cake Recipe:

    1 Cup Shrimp
    1/2 Cup Pork Fat (pork belly)
    1 Packet of Gogi Tempura Batter 5.3 Oz
    1 Cup bread crumbs (panko preferred)
    1/4 tbsp soy sauce
    1/4 tbsp oyster sauce
    1/4 teaspoon sugar
    1 egg
    1/4 tbsp cilantro / coriander 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
    Your choice of oil for frying

    1 - Add shrimp and pork fat in a food processor and blend to a smooth thick paste.
    2 - Transfer paste to a mixing bowl and add soy sauce, oyster sauce, cilantro, pepper, sugar and 1 TBSP of Gogi Tempura Batter to the bowl. Mix Thouroughly. Let the mixture mariate for at least 1 hour.
    3 - Shape mixture into small cakes with your hands into the shape of your choice.
    4 - Roll the small cake into Gogi Tempura Batter until evenly coated.
    5 - Beat an egg in another bowl and coat the cake in the egg.
    6 - Coat the cake in breadcrumbs evenly.
    Repeat until with the rest of the mixture.
    7 - Heat the cooking oil and fry for about 5 minutes (depending on the size and shape of shrimp cake) until golden.
    9 - Place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

    Serve with your favorite dipping sauce!
