This is a recipe for French fries that you can make in the oven. If you feel guilty about eating deep-fried foods, and deep-fried French fries, perhaps this is a slightly better alternative.

French Fries:
(picture represents typical French Fries, not necessarily results from the following recipe)
French fries

Here are the ingredients:
  • Large baking potatoes
  • Oil
  • Salt
Here are the steps for preparing the recipe:
  1. Peel the potatoes and cut into long strips about ¼ inch (0.5 centimeters) ½ inch (1 centimeter) in diameter.

  2. Soak the potato strips in a bowl of cold water for 30 minutes to 1 hour. You can place the bowl in the refridgerator, or even put a few ice cubes in the water. This cold water soaking is intended to help the French fries become crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

  3. Drain the potato strips, and dry them thoroughly by patting down with paper towels.

  4. Toss the potato strips with a little vegetable oil (a tablespoon or two at most), making sure that they are even coated, and there is not an excessive amount of oil.

  5. Place the potato strips on a baking sheet (baking tray), spreading them out, and in a single layer.

  6. Place the baking sheet (baking tray) in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C; Gas Mark 7). You will need to cook for about 20 to 25 minutes, and should turn the strips occasionally. When the potatoes are cooked, they should be crisp and brown.

  7. When cooking is complete, remove the potatoes the oven, season with a salt, and serve.
