Baked potatoes (sometimes also known as "stuffed potatoes")
an easy method of preparing potatoes. They can be cooked in the oven,
in the microwave, on a
barbecue grill,
or in hot coals (for example, when camping).

- Large baking potatoes
- Cooking oil (Olive oil recommended)
- Optional: Salt
- Optional: Butter or sour cream

- Scrub the potatoes. Make multiple piercings in their skin
using a fork.

- To cook in the oven:
- Wrap the potatoes in lightly-oiled aluminium foil - not too tight.
- If cooking 4 or more potatoes, you will need to bake them for about
1½ hours at 350°F (175°C; Gas Mark 4). If cooking
few than 4 potatoes, less time (perhaps 1 hour) may be necessary.
- You can check whether the potatoes are cooked by removing them
from the oven, and trying to stick a fork in. If it goes in deeply with
almost no effort, the potato is cooked. On the other hand, if the
potato is still very firm, you need to cook it longer.
Important:
The potatoes and foil will be very hot when removed from the oven.
Be careful!
- To cook in the microwave:
- Wrap the potatoes in waxed paper.
- Place them on a paper towel on a microwaveable plate or dish,
and potatoes on top.
- Microwave for about 8 minutes on a high setting.
- Check whether the potatoes are cooked by trying to stick a fork into them
If the fork goes in deeply with
almost no effort, the potato is cooked. On the other hand, if the
potato is still very firm, you need to microwave it longer.

The potatoes and foil will be very hot when removed from the microwave.

- To cook in coals (for example, campfire):
- Wrap the potatoes in lightly-oiled aluminium foil.
- Place the foiled wrap potatoes on your coals for about 45 minutes.
- You can check whether the potatoes are cooked by removing them
from the oven, and trying to stick a fork in. If it goes in deeply with
almost no effort, the potato is cooked. On the other hand, if the
potato is still very firm, you need to cook it longer.

them open, and then serve.
- Baked potatoes can be served with a little salt, plus
