The term Asian cuisine is used to refer to the cuisines of the various
countries in Asia:
- In the
United States, when
a person says "Asian cuisine", people generally think of East and Southeast
Asia, for example
Chinese cuisine,
Japanese cuisine,
Korean cuisine,
Malaysian cuisine,
Thai cuisine, and
Vietnamese cuisine.
- In the
United Kingdom, the
term "Asian cuisine", tends to refer more to the cuisine of South Asian
countries, for example
Indian cuisine and
Sri Lankan cuisine.
- Although the Middle East is technically part of Asia, most people tend to
consider Middle Eastern cuisine separately from
Asian cuisine. We have followed this convention on this web site.
- Likewise, Russia
and Turkey both
include land areas in Asia, however their cuisines are not usually considered part of
Asian cuisine. Again, we have followed this convention on this web site, and discuss
Russian cuisine and
Turkish cuisine separately.
