Albania At various times, the territory of Albania has been occupied by Greece, Italy, and the Ottoman Turks. Each of these periods have left a mark of Albanian cuisine.

Some popular Albanian recipes and dishes include:
  • Aubergines stuffed with cheese.

  • Burek - A pie containing cabbage, feta cheese, meat, or vegetables.

  • Dolma - Grape leaves stuffed with rice.

  • Lamb baked with yoghurt.

  • Peppers stuffed with rice, meat and vegetables.

  • Tarator - A yoghurt and cucumber soup that is served chilled and is eaten during the summer.

  • Trout baked with tomatoes and onions.
Some popular desserts in Albania include:
  • Baklava - A sweet pastry made from phyllo dough, filled with chopped nuts (pistachios or walnuts). and sweetened with honey or syrup.

  • Halvë - The Albanian version of halva. It is is made from flour, butter and sugar, and flavored with chocolate or vanilla.

  • Kadaif - A sweet pastry made from long noodle-like threads of dough.

  • Llukumë - The Albanian version of Turkish delight.
