How to Cook dishes from Argentina

Argentina Argentina is home to a distinctive cuisine. The Argentine diet is very much influenced by Argentina's importance as a major agricultural nation - Argentina is one of the world's foremost producers of meat (especially beef) as well as beans, corn, milk, soybeans and wheat - and as a result the Argentine diet is noted for its high protein (especially meat) and wheat content.

Argentine recipes have many different culinary influences. There are many recipes influenced by European traditions, including numerous recipes influenced by Italian cuisine (especially many pasta dishes, and Argentine pizza), Spanish cuisine, and French cuisine. The indigenous people of Argentina have also influenced the development of the country's cuisine, and there also some dishes that have developed as a result of influences from tghe Guarani, Mapuche and Quechua peoples.

Some popular Argentine recipes and dishes include:
  • Chimichurri - A sauce used to cook and marinating many types of meat. It is made from parsley, garlic, dried oregano, paprika and and onion, with salt and pepper, all in olive oil, sometimes with the addition of vinegar or lemon. There are many stories and legends as to the sauce's origins.

  • Parrilla - Grilled meat cooked on a barbecue grill ("Asado").

  • Chorizo - Sausage, mostly made from pork but sometimes also containing beef. It is typically less spicy than the Spanish variety, and is sometimes cooked and served in a bread roll ("choripán").

  • Morcilla - Blood sausage, similar to black pudding. It sometimes eaten inside a bread roll or sandwich ("morcipán").

  • Chinchulines - Cooked intestines (like chitterlings), usually from a calf, but sometimes from a lamb or goat kid.

  • Milanesa - A thin slice of meat (usually beef, but sometimes chicken or veal), dipped in eggs, seasoned, and then covered with breadcrumbs and fried - similar to Austrian cuisine's Wiener schnitzel. It is often eaten with mashed potatoes as "milanesa con papas".

  • Empanadas - Baked or fried pastries usually containing various savory fillings. There are many different varieties, and they vary greatly between Argentine regions. Some typical fillings include chicken, beef, boiled-egg, cheese, ham and cheese, fish, spinach, or humita (sweetcorn with white sauce). There are also dessert varieties, which normally contain fruit fillings.

    Empanadas

  • Pizza - The Argentine version of pizza. It usually resembles Italian cuisine's calzones, rather than Italian pizzas.

  • Canelones - Cannelloni.

  • Ñoquis - Gnocchi.

  • Ravioles - Ravioli.

  • Tallarines - Fettuccine.
